Yachtskipper 3
Course list at the bottom of the page. Max. 8 students
Yacht Skipper 3rd degree (Y3) is the first of two exams that form a theoretical superstructure on the certificate of competency. Passing the exam together with a vision and hearing test gives a Certificate of Competency and access to operate pleasure vessels between 15 and 24 meters.
Note: The vision test includes a test for color blindness. If you are color blind for red/green, you cannot obtain a Y3 certificate of competency and thus permission to sail boats over 15 meters. You can still take the course and take the test.
A certificate of competency as a yacht skipper of the 3rd degree entitles you to operate recreational vessels with a hull length between 15 meters and 24 meters, at sea in Danish waters, the Baltic Sea, the North Sea and the English Channel, as well as in the British Isles, Ireland, Norway, the Faroe Islands and along the coasts of Greenland at a distance not exceeding 30 nautical miles from the coast.
The certificate of competency also gives the right to sail as first mate on the same ships 15 – 24 meter worldwide.
Although it is a qualification-granting education, many choose it with the main purpose of becoming skilled in sailing in smaller boats. A proficiency test in engine maintenance is required for sailing in recreational vessels over 15 meters, with engine power over 100 kW (135 HP) but under 750 kW (1000 HP).
Please note: Yacht Skipper 3 is only a theoretical training course. It does not include any additional sailing.
The training consists of 6 modules:
- Navigation/tides
- The sea
- Seamanship
- Rules of the Sea
- Meteorology
- Sailing planning
Homework is expected in connection with the course and in connection with the Planning assignment, which must be completed before the exam. For further information and if you would like to discuss expectations, please contact us on tel. 5174 7884.
The class has a maximum of 8 students.
